Why Your Social Media Isn’t Working
If you feel like you’re posting consistently, putting time into your content, and still not seeing any real return from it, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common things I hear from business owners when they first come to me.
Most of the time, it’s not that social media “isn’t working.” It’s that there’s no real strategy behind what’s being posted.
I’ll look at an account and see content going up regularly, but nothing is actually guiding the audience toward a decision. There’s no clear direction, no positioning, and no reason for someone to go from watching a post to becoming a customer.
A lot of businesses are stuck in a cycle where they’re just trying to stay active. They’re posting to keep the account alive, not to actually grow it.
And that’s where things start to fall apart.
When there’s no strategy, content becomes random. One post might be educational, the next is a promotion, then a trend, then something completely unrelated. To the business owner, it feels like they’re doing everything they’re supposed to be doing. To the person viewing it, it feels inconsistent and forgettable.
Another thing I see all the time is content that focuses too much on the business and not enough on the customer. It talks about services, features, or what the company offers, but it doesn’t connect back to what the audience actually cares about or is struggling with.
People aren’t on social media looking to be sold to right away. They’re trying to figure out who they trust, who understands them, and who actually knows what they’re doing.
If your content isn’t helping them do that, they’re not going to take the next step.
The accounts that do well are the ones that feel intentional. Every piece of content plays a role. Some posts build trust, some educate, some show personality, and some are there to convert. There’s a balance, but it’s all working toward the same goal.
That’s the difference between content that just fills a feed and content that actually grows a business.
If you’re at a point where you feel like you’ve been putting effort into your social media and not seeing anything back, it’s probably time to take a step back and look at the strategy behind it, not just the posting itself.
